Representative is not exact
An inferred ancient unit can be highly useful without being exact. The chosen value summarises rods, buildings, texts, or modern scholarship. Its uncertainty describes the evidence, while floating-point precision describes only the software.
Two uncertain standards
Converting one reconstructed unit into another combines uncertainties. The v1 engine uses a conservative first-order propagation so users can see that comparison adds assumptions.
Write the result well
For narrative work, round to a sensible scale and retain the context. For reproducible research, record the unit identifier and source. Precision should serve auditability, not theatrical certainty.
